Quote:
"The Deepwater Program is the centerpiece of the Coast Guard’s future capability in nearly all of our maritime missions."

June 14, 2006 - Admiral Thad Allen, Commandant USCG, testimony before the SUBCOMMITTEE ON COAST GUARD AND MARITIME TRANSPORTATION, Transportation & Infrastructure committee, U. S. HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

Following 9/11, Homeland Security became a priority mission for the Coast Guard. The Coast Guard and other agencies must coordinate and focus on the real threats to our Nation, while maximising the use of its assets and people.

The planned Deepwater System will permit:

  • Real-time sharing of data and intelligence, extending situational awareness beyond the inherent boundaries of each system.
  • Interoperability with other agencies; intelligence data fusion to pinpoint potential risks and to maintain Maritime Domain Awareness.
  • Identification of high-risk vessel threats and cargo threats prior to reaching our shores and ports.
  • "Targeting," Interception and Control of high-risk vessels before they arrive at U.S. ports.
