By Ruben Morales Iglesias: On Friday afternoon, the Belize Coast Guard rescued a Belizean, a German and an American after four hours at sea.

“After their vessel was submerged south of Ranguana Caye, the trio swam to the ‘third reef’ where they sent a distress signal via their Garmin Inreach device,” the Belize Coast Guard said.

“This signal was picked up by the International Emergency Response Center in Miami and transmitted to Belize Coast Guard Headquarters. Our initial search located the vessel semi-submerged with no one in the immediate area. located the three men clinging to the reef.

The Belize Coastguard said it was a difficult operation in rough seas as they had no direct communication with the three people in distress. In the end, the Coast Guard is happy to have succeeded in rescuing the three individuals.
