Motorists in Winona should be vigilant June 13-15 and for several days beginning June 21 for daytime lane closures from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. as the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) conducts routine inspections on the bridge off Highway 43. over the Mississippi River.

The bridge out of Highway 43 over the Mississippi River will have a daily lane closure.

The inspection assesses safety and monitors the effects of traffic, weather and other elements on the structure.

Inspectors will use a surveillance truck to assess the bridges. A spy truck is a specialized vehicle featuring a multi-jointed arm with a basket attached to the end to hold bridge inspectors. The equipment allows the inspection team to maneuver under the bridge, while the truck is parked on the bridge deck.

MnDOT bridge inspectors will assess approximately 489 structures for MnDOT and 347 bridges for cities and counties in Southeast Minnesota this season. Inspections are regular to ensure safety and to monitor the effects of traffic, weather and other elements on the structure.

The MnDOT urges motorists to always be alert, drive with caution, slow down in work zones, and never enter a road blocked by barriers or cones.
