Living Faith Church

Faith Alive Church, 678 Pine St., Palmerton (Bowmanstown), has two services each Sunday with Pastor Rob Timlin. At 8:30 a.m., it’s contemporary service followed by Sunday school for all ages at 9.45 a.m., then traditional service at 11 a.m. On August 8, they will have a guest speaker, Pastor Lee Adams.

Every Wednesday at 7 p.m., join us for prayer and praise.

August 16 at 7:00 p.m. is the church board meeting.

August 29 at 6 p.m. is the youth group event – the end of summer evening at the foyer

The August mission is “ABC Food Pantry”. It is the church’s own pantry to help church families and other members of the community. Food donations and monetary donations are welcome to help this wonderful mission.

Micah’s backpack is currently restocking shelves for the 2021-22 school year. They help feed needy students in the Palmerton School District. Foods needed are pasta with sauce (7.5 cups microwave safe), “Compleats” meals, and fruit gelatin (single unrefrigerated cups). Any donation will be greatly appreciated.

Readme program

The Palmerton Area Library wishes to give new parents and babies the gift of reading. Newborns who are read to develop greater vocabulary, math and language skills. Stop by the library to pick up a free Read to Me bag. Each bag contains a children’s beginner’s book and information on the benefits of reading for babies. These bags were lovingly donated and feature a photo of a child read to. The Palmerton Area Library’s Read To Me program was started by mother and educator Susan Olivia in memory of her daughter Kristin. It is also supported by local donors and book lovers. Lucky draw for library baskets

The Palmerton Area Library Board has put together some wonderful baskets. The basket raffle begins on August 9. Tickets can be purchased at the library reception. The winners will be contacted on September 13.

Free community meal

A free community meal will be served at St. John’s United Church of Christ, 891 Columbia Ave., Palmerton, on August 10 from 4:30 to 6 p.m. This is a take out meal only. The menu is lasagna, salad and dessert. Everyone is welcome.

Park concert

This Sunday’s concert at Palmerton Borough Park will be given by The Pennsylvania Villagers from 6.30 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the park’s bandstand. This concert is sponsored by the Palmerton Concourse Club. Bring a lounge chair or blanket and enjoy the concert. The bandstand committee reserves the right to cancel the concert in the event of bad weather.

On August 15th, the concert will be given by Second to None Band.

Picnic at the church

The Lutheran Church in Jerusalem, Trachsville, will be hosting its annual Sunday School Picnic this Saturday starting at noon. Services with guest speaker Roger Borger will be at 2 p.m.

Afternoon activities include a children’s cake and a fish pond at 3 p.m.

Evening activities include a walk for all ages at 6.30 p.m. followed by a raffle.

Live music for Last One Standing will begin at 4 p.m. Bring a lawn chair and come enjoy a day filled with great food, fun and camaraderie.

Borough Council

The Palmerton Borough Council will hold its regular meetings on August 12 and 26 at 7 p.m. in the Borough Council Chamber, 443 Delaware Avenue.

Book in car

The collection of children’s book donations for the community continues until August 31. Drop off all new children’s books at 783 Princeton Ave., Palmerton. A box will be on the porch. The books will be distributed to local daycares and those in need until September. The campaign is in conjunction with National Read a Book Day on September 6, followed by National Book Month in October. For more information, call 610-393-0705 or visit [email protected].

Narcotics Anonymous

Narcotics Anonymous is an open meeting held every Thursday from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Living Hope Lighthouse Church, 705 N. Third St., Palmerton. If you or someone you know suffers from drug addiction, come see us. It is an excellent resource for help.

Auto, Truck and Bike Show

A car, truck and bike show with flea market will be held Sunday at the Zinc City Motorcycle Club, 10485 Interchange Road (Route 209), Kresgeville. Registration is 9 a.m. to noon with the show and flea market until 2 p.m. Food is take out only, door prizes and 50/50.
